In Kindergarten we started off reading "Going Home" by Margaret Wild and Wayne Harris. This story features Hugo, a boy confined to hospital with two other children. Hugo patiently waits to go home but lets his imagination run wild each day as he hears the animals from the zoo outside the hospital window, calling him to visit their home with him. His first venture afar is with an elephant, to the plains of Africa.
We looked at our continents globe to see how far Africa is from Australia and then used one of the Library's Junior Encyclopedia's to learn more about Africa. So far Kindergarten has drawn an African animal and created Adinkra prints, a traditional African print form for clothing. They look beautiful on our Library walls.
Kindergarten is now enjoying the Handa's series of stories about an African girls and her mother living in a village. See Handa's Surprise and Handa's Hen to watch these stories at home.
