Thanks to the Murphy Family for recommending this title.
But that's not the only Poo happening this week. In my last post I mentioned our Kindergarten Inquiry into Wiggly Worms. This week we'll be labelling the parts of a worm and we'll start observing our worms in a Worm Observation Jar. I got this idea from STEM Mom who I came across when I was researching the ins and outs of putting a worm farm together. After I realised that it could take between 3-6 months to see some major changes in the large worm farm that we have for the school yard (eek!) I started looking for something that would allow the students to observe the changes in the soil, watch how the worms move and tunnel and generally, be a LOT more visual for them.
Head on over to STEM Mom for the complete how-to if you want to make one of these at home, but here's a very brief explanation:
1. Gather your supplies:
- Clear container and a smaller one filled with water and a lid to fit inside it so that the worms don't have as much space to hide
- Pebbles
- Sand
- Cup or spade
- Soil
- Worm Food, eg. food scraps, no onion or meat - worms don't like these
- Worms
- Old Stocking
I can't wait until the little wrigglers take off!
